“In The Tradition”
The Austrian drummer Bernd Reiter studied with Manfred Josel, Bruno Castellucci, John Riley, Lewis Nash, Billy Cobham, Charli Persip and Jimmy Cobb. In 2006 he won the New York Stipendium of the Hans Koller Prize, the Austrian Jazzprize and spent several months in New York before moving to Munich in December 2007 and then on to Paris in October 2012.Bernd Reiter had the opportunity to work with international soloists such as Harold Mabern, Charles Davis, Kirk Lightsey, Don Menza, Mundell Lowe, Steve Grossman, Eric Alexander, Jim Rotondi, Claudio Roditi, Cyrus Chestnut and many more.
His trio featuresin this edition twooutstanding musicians from Vienna: pianist Oliver Kent and the young bassist Philipp Zarfl are two main figures on the Viennese jazz scene since many years and have collaborated with Sheila Jordan, Clark Terry, Kurt Elling, Jon Hendricks, Bennie Maupin, Benny Bailey, Jimmy Cobb, Johnny Griffin, the Vienna Art Orchestra and many more.
This project brings together three of Austria’stop straight-ahead jazz players who carry on the tradition of bebop and hardbop with a lot of energy, spirit, soul, enthusiasm and swing, simply ‘Jazz at its Best’!
