Dennis Adu was born on May 8, 1987 in Ghana in the small town of Saltpond. In 1989 he moved to Ukraine, to Krivoy Rog. Dennis began learning to play the trumpet in a brass band at the boarding school at the age of seven. His first teacher, VS Gazarov, introduced him to the work of Louis Armstrong and jazz music.A year later, on the advice of a teacher, Dennis entered the music school № 10 and immediately got into the children’s big band AG Goebel.
As part of the orchestra, in 1998, Adu made his debut at the festival «Horizons of Jazz» (Krivoy Rog) and then took part in such festivals as «Jazz on the Dnieper» (Dnepropetrovsk), «In Memory of L. Utesov» (South), «Millau en Jazz» (France), «Fel du Sher» (France), «Jazz a Vienn», «Jazz Carnival in Odessa», «Jazz Koktebel». Dennis managed to take part in a master class by trumpeter John Faddis.
In 2001 he entered the Kryvyi Rih Music School. In 2004 he moved to the city of Kiev and entered KIM Glier, where he began working closely with Kiev musicians, such as: Dmitry Alexandrov, Ilya Eresko, Alexei Fantaev, Oleg Markov, Dmitry Kovalenko, Roman Kolyada and others.
In 2006 he got the award «Best Trumpeter» of the competition «DoDzh-Junior». In 2009 he received the award as the Best Jazz Musician of Ukraine at the DoDzh Festival, as well as the award «Best Trumpeter» and «Best Arrangement of Jazz Standard».
Since 2010 he has been teaching at KIM Glier in the orchestra and trumpet class. In 2012 he became the band leader of the Kyiv Big Band, as well as the leader of such projects as Dennis Adu Quintet, Sextet and Septet, in 2014 the band leader of the Dennis Adu Big Band.
Creative collaborations of Dennis Adu were held with such musicians as: Ku- Umba Frank Lacy, Gregory Porter, Curtis Fuller, Jim Rotondi, Roy and Ofer Assaf, Steve Slagle, Javon Jackson, Larry Willis, Quincy Davis, Dana Hall, Wayne Escoffery Jimmy Bosch, Seamus Blake.
