Dmitry “Bobeen” Alexandrov is one of the most popular saxophonists of Ukraine, known far beyond the borders of his country.
Dmitry was born on December 27, 1973 in Kharkov. He began to study music at the age of 4, graduated from the children’s music school No. 9 with a degree in piano and clarinet; in 1988 he entered the Kharkov Music College, where he first picked up a saxophone, and in the same year he became a laureate of the republican competition in Donetsk, and a year later, a diploma winner of an international competition in Kiev.
In 1992, he graduated from KhMU and entered the Rostov Conservatory, worked as an intern in the band of Kim Nazaretov. Soon Aleksandrov transferred to the Kharkov Institute of Arts.
1995 was marked by a debut at the festival “Horizons of Jazz” (Kryvyi Rih) and a performance at the “Jazz Festival” in Sumy. In the same year, the Shid-Side quartet was created.
In 1996 he completed several tours to Germany, participating in multiple festivals.
Alexandrov is extremely active in creative work. It belongs to the type of people who, upon reaching a certain level of performing skills, on a sufficiently high level, doesn’t not leave their daily six-seven-hour work on themselves. Dmitry plays many genres like salsa, swing, post-bop. Traditional jazz in his interpretation is practically indistinguishable by literacy stylistic design from American standards. It happened more than once that overseas eminent guests, being after their solo performances were not averse to playing jam with local musicians, were surprised to discover that a decent saxophone school is represented by Dmitry in Ukraine.
