On the first day of the festival “Jazz on the Dnipro 2018” on July 20 at the Festival Wharf (Sicheslavskaya Embankment) the final of the contest of young performers “Jazz on the PIRS” will take place.
Within the framework of the partnership project “Jazz on PIRS”, 6 concerts were held in the Dnieper for two months, in which 10 musical groups from various cities of Ukraine participated: Kharkov, Odessa, Kiev, Zaporozhye and the Dnieper. Recall that the winner of this contest will receive a cash prize and the right to speak on July 22, 2018. on the main stage of the festival “Jazz on the Dnieper”. The jury of the festival, viewing the video material, chose the best bands that will perform in the final concert on July 20, 2018.

This is an exquisite cocktail of acid jazz, bossa nova, art lounge, fusion and something inexplicable, finding a response from the sophisticated listener. This music is published on the collections of the current European lounge, meets in the charts of Ukrainian jazz and sounds on many festival and club venues.

Big Band of the National University of Civil Defense of Ukraine (Kharkov)4
Orchestra of military musicians under the direction of George Zub, a native of the DSMU named after Glinka in the class of clarinet. In just a few months the collective prepared a concert program for the variety direction and on the eve of the new year the first reporting concert was given. For the orchestra, this was a new round of development and a colossal experience in the direction of variety music. Big Band is a regular participant in city and regional events, festivals and shows. The best band musicians and vocalists from Kharkov are always performing with the big band band. In the big band’s program of compositions of instrumental jazz music by such eminent composers and arrangers as: Sammy Nestico, Quincy Jones, Mike Carubia, Ralph Gingery, Ray Ortiz.

Dance hits three-time winner Gremmy Brian Setzer, the arrangement of the Californian master of all hands Gordon Goodwin and many other legendary music. The mood conveyed by the musicians of the Rocket Band will not allow you to sit still, you will certainly want to dance!
Está No Ar (Dnepr)
A collective that united young talented musicians from the Dnieper. “Está no ar” in Portuguese means “is in the air”. So the repertoire that you will hear from the guys this evening will allow you to tear yourself away from the earth and be alone with your thoughts and dreams.

- Agata Vilchik is a musician, multi-instrumentalist, songwriter, leader of the “Shadow Tui” group, participant of the “Voice of the Kraini” project
- Anna Minakova is a laureate of the all-Ukrainian pianists’ competition, the leader of Sergeant Pepper’s Choir of Lonely Hearts
Musicians perform songs that are filled with feelings and states, music that exists on the edge of all possible genres and beyond. This is rock, jazz, a little ethnics, free improvisation. In the instruments – voice, keys, percussions, looper, saxophone, bamboo flute.
Jury of the Jazz Contest at PIRS:
Mikhail and Lyudmila Krymovy (Ukraine) are laureates of international jazz festivals, formerly participants of the famous Dnepropetrovsk jazz-rock band CREDO.
Virtuoso instrumentalists, they are the authors and arrangers of the original jazz music.
Deniss Pashkevich (Latvia) – one of the most vivid and sought-after musicians of Latvia. The talented saxophonist is the endorser and the director of the company Riga winds (London-Riga) and the American Theo Wanne, as well as the official artist Kay Siebold (Hamburg, Germany).
Jolanta Gulbe Pashkevich (Latvia) is one of the most extravagant singers of the Latvian professional jazz elite with a rich and powerful voice. Iolanta is one of the most popular bossa nova and Portuguese singer Fado in the Baltic States. In addition, Iolanthe was a judge and vocal coach of a number of Latvian TV shows.
Allan Harris (USA) is a three-time winner of the New York Night Life Award in the Outstanding Jazz Vocalist nomination, Bastro Backstage Award for “Achievements in Jazz Music”, the award of the Union of Critics of the leading jazz magazine DownBeat. Great Tony Bennett calls Allan his “favorite singer”, and Stephen Holden of The New York Times admires “Allan Harris’ multifaceted talent.”
Ina Dittke (USA) – music producer, founder of the agency Dittke & Associates, is popular in the jazz world as a person who was personal manager managed by Ronnie Scott, organized tours for the United Orchestra of Dizzy Gillespie, Tito Puente and Cecilia Cruz, represented the interests of Miles Davis, Stan Gets, Roy Ayers, Georges Fame and many others. She also organized a large number of international jazz festivals, even was invited to organize a festival in honor of the 60th anniversary of the ascent to the throne of the King of Thailand. Ina is still a representative of many jazz celebrities, for us it is a special honor to see her in the ranks of the jury.
